    Ballarat Beat Pinup Competition 2019!

    Ballarat Beat Pinup Competition 2019!

The Ballarat Beat Rockabilly Festival only happens once a year and for that one weekend in February people from all over come together to celebrate all things 50's.

Among the the music, market stalls, dancing and cars is the annual Ballarat Beat Pinup Compettion https://www.facebook.com/BallaratBeatPinupCompetition/

Hosted by Lana-Rose Fashion stunning pinup girls and guys from all over the state and now the country can apply to take part in one of the biggest pinup competitions in Victoria and one of the biggest in Australia.

Now this isn't just another pinup comp, but rather a community of passionate people promoting positivity, togetherness, friendship and a love of vintage and rockabilly. The team behind this event are remarkable from the get go and are there to support you the whole way. The preparations that go into organizing such a big show are mind boggling and really go on for the whole year leading up to the next one.

The competition takes place on the Saturday of the festival at 2pm in the beautiful Mining Exchange Building on Lydiard Street. It always draws a huge crowd and the building fills up pretty quick so it's good to get there early to snag a seat or three!

This is a family friendly event so bring the kids along, they love to see us all dressed up and there are photo opportunities too!

There are 5 categories with 5 contestants in each and all perform a 3min routine with a minimum of 3 poses held for 5sec. You can choose your own music as long as it matches your category/theme.

    Categories

    - Glamourbilly { true vintage attire }

    - Rock-a-billy

    - Psycho-billy

    - Geek-a-billy

    - Couple-O-Billy

Having such a wide range of categories allows pinup gals and guys to really express who they are and what they love about pinup. This year I was selected for Geek-a-billy which is not my usual style, but I had a fab idea that would represent everything I love about the 50's but would still fit the category requirements. For those of you that don't know the term Geek-a-billy is when pop culture and pinup collide. The inspiration comes from comics, movies, books and video games and it sure is a treat and fun to be a part of.

This year I said to myself " I'm going all out with everything" and I really did. From my costume to my routine I really went above and beyond and I had so much fun with it. So one of my favorite movies is A League Of Their Own which is about an all American women's baseball league back in the 40's and 50's. I have always loved their uniforms and they all had that classic pinup hair and makeup plus it's a movie so perfect for Geek-a-billy. My only concern was the costume, I had ordered one online but once I received it I realized that it wasn't going to stand out enough. My brain started ticking over and I had a light bulb moment "latex"!

I had been following an admiring the work of local latex designer The Polished Pinup for a while now, so I thought what better way to collaborate with her, promote her brand and have a stand out costume like no other. We quickly got working together to get it done in time and Eliza was just amazing and so talented. Check out her work below.

Everyone looked amazing and worked so hard and backstage was a buzzing room full of support and excitement. We all nailed our routines the best we could and encouraged each other and congratulated each other after our performances.

Standing on stage with all of these talented individuals made me feel super proud. We were all happy for each other no matter the outcome because just to get up there in front of a room full of people is an achievement in itself.

    Drum roll please......
